Just as there are living quarters, classrooms, medical facilities and cafeterias in all CCA facilities, there are also libraries.
Correctional libraries satisfy a fundamental recreational need for offenders – the desire to obtain knowledge, be entertained by stories and stay engaged with current events in the broader world. CCA libraries contain many periodicals, newspapers, fiction and non-fiction books, reference materials and more. They also feature legal resources and related tools commonly sought by inmates.
Typically, CCA libraries are staffed by a librarian or library aide. These trained professionals help those in our care obtain the allowed materials they may seek. They may also make reading recommendations or find preferred resources, based on the diverse and unique needs of our populations.
